The paternity gate in Ohio

Form: Acknowledgment of Paternity Affidavit (at hospital / health department / CSEA); also administrative determination, or court order with genetic testing

Authority: Ohio Rev. Code ch. 3111 (§3111.23 acknowledgment); §3109.042

Rescission window: not stated in our verified data for this state, so none is printed.

§3109.042: an unmarried mother is the sole residential parent and legal custodian from birth until a court of competent jurisdiction issues an order designating another person - regardless of the birth certificate or involvement. Paternity alone still gives no custody or parenting time; he must then file, at which point §3109.042 requires the court to treat the parents as standing upon an equality for the residential-parent designation. Self-help (taking/keeping the child) is not a substitute and can be treated as interference with custody.
